John Leech, MSWHi, I'm John!
I have worn many hats in my life, including being a Military Officer of 28 years. I realized I had a passion for mental health and serving others and went back to school and earned degrees in both Clinical Psychology and Clinical Social Work. Being familiar with the stressors of military life, I have focused my training on Complex Trauma. I have spent five years under the direction of internationally known Complex Trauma specialist Dr. Christine Courtois. I have additional training with childhood trauma under the guidance of senior therapists during internships at Walter Reed Hospital and Fairfax Co. Mental Health.
I have worked with patients experiencing what is known as Tinnitus Distress. Tinnitus distress is the persistent, negative emotional reaction to tinnitus which can cause significant anxiety and depression and if not properly treated can have emotionally devastating effects on an individual’s well-being. Tinnitus is the number one disability with the V.A. In addition to working with trauma, I enjoy helping those with anxiety, depression, family conflict, relational conflict, and substance abuse. I have also worked with adults and children on the autism spectrum disorder. I focus on ACT, DBT, CBT, and trauma informed interventions.
